Hi -- I've just subbed to this group because it appears there are people on here who have Listserv discussion lists gated to Usenet, and I need to do that with one of my own. I currently operate three discussion lists on home.ease.lsoft.com, and have just added a fourth (it's paid for, should be running by tomorrow). It is the fourth one that I intend to gate. It is an information list for people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (People With CFS, or PWC's). There are currently several lists for PWC's on USENET, but none of them are moderated in the formal sense of the word -- they are monitored, but only after postings have already occurred. I want to have a fully moderated list to control what is posted on the site, suggesting that chatter or off-topic posts be sent to one or another existing list, and of course weeding out flames and spams. One of my three lists is fully moderated and has been for a year; I also have participated in the H-Net set of discussion lists as an editor (as we call them) for over a year. I am well aware that some people consider moderating or editing a list to be censorship -- that's their business, and there are other lists for them. But some of us would prefer a list where mistakes are fixed before they happen, instead of dealing with trouble after it's occurred and everybody's upset and embarassed, or ticked off because there's too much traffic. I wish to offer that alternative. At any rate, I am just beginning the process of trying to get a gateway and I'm not sure I know what I am doing! So -- did I do this right? I sent this message to bit.admin -- Anything else I'm supposed to do during this "trial" week? Thanks -- Mary Schweitzer <[log in to unmask]> --------forwarded post--------- [log in to unmask] is a moderated discussion list for serious questions and answers about the disease variously known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS), and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.), as well as related illnessees such as fibromyalgia, multiple chemical sensitivities, post-polio syndrome, and Gulf War syndrome. The purpose of the gating PWC-Info to USENET is to permit those who are not subscribed to the list, or do not wish to receive messages via e-mail, to have access to the information. The list as proposed would be gated as alt.health.pwc-info Mary Schweitzer, listowner, [log in to unmask]
