This particular list is an "official information" list and it would be very unfortunate for someone to be able to just set their mail program to say they were the authorized poster and have a false or forged message be distributed as "official." I've finished setting up the list and it's working well with the "OK" mechanism. The secretary who will make the posts understands the rationale and had no problem approving her own posts.
