A couple of "solutions" come to mind:

1) delete the poster who is sending the mail, and/or

2) alter the receiver's subscription options e.g., SET DIGEST  (there
might even be a header option such as SHORT that might do the trick), and/or

3) don't use auto-delete and/or

4) have the user READ the list via Usenet:

news:bit.listserv.news-l

which seems to be globally gatewayed via AMERICAN.EDU

Someone with more knowledge will have to speak to the relevant RFCs and
what is conformant behaviour.
