So this is the "your message has been rejected" message that people who aren't subscribed to the mailing list have been getting. they *are* complaining. (i disabled "your message has been forwarded" a while back.) wish i knew what to do about it other than to ask american.edu to take down the old gateway. >the only one on my list being inconvenienced by American University's >ignoring requests is me, and it's a minor inconvenience that I'm willing to >live with after all the help they've given us over the years. > i know what you mean. it's easy enough to just delete the extra messages. after everything american's done for me, that's not the problem. the problem is for people who don't subscribe to the hwy61-l mailing list, who post to rec.music.dylan. some are *not* happy and have let me know. in general, the public mood ranges from ... cranky ... at best, to psychotic, as regards getting "rejection" messages from a mailing list that they're not subscribed to. :-| the difference here is basically that i don't gate to the same kind of newsgroup that you do. not everyone tolerates hwy61-l's existence, let alone *likes* it. for example, i recently had to demand that the rec.music.dylan faq maintainer take hwy61-l's info out of the faq, because of the hatchet job that had been done on it -- i.e. it *wasn't called hwy61-l anymore* (!). i don't think that you run into this kind of problem with your associated newsgroup. at least i *hope* you don't. :-) i've posted indicating that i appreciate their patience. hadn't really understood how widespread the problem was until yesterday, when it surfaced publicly. if anyone can help me understand more about the message - i'd appreciate the help. for example, is it something in the mailtpl that i can disable? ( i didn't see it, but that doesn't mean it isn't there ... ) >The continued forwarding of posts doesn't worry me as much as the >continuing question of admin authority of the bit.listserv.* groups. That >really must be transferred. > i hope that that problem will be addressed for you. sooner rather than later. meanwhile, am getting *no messages* for approval from either newsguy or american, nor can i re-put my header to buffalo today. anyone know -- is buffalo down today? maureen :-)
