We had this problem twice now on our list. Suddenly old postings start being distributed again. On March 16th, about 25 postings from the previous week were distributed within minutes. Some subscribers thought they were suffering from deja-vu... The list was on HOLD for a day and the problem was gone. I have now set Daily-Threshold to 20 (we rarely have more than 10 postings per day) in case it happens again. What can I do to prevent this from happening again? We also have Loopcheck=Full but that did not prevent it. The header of one of those re-distributions is below. Note that there are two "Approved-By" lines, the second one with the list address. Does this mean that the second time around the posting apparently came from this address, which was faked by a malfunctioning mail server? But that address is not a subscriber so the posting should have gone to the Editor address. I thought we had set up the list with all safeguards in place. It worries me that this can happen. Biomch-L has almost 4000 subscribers, so the potential impact of these problems is huge. -- Ton van den Bogert, Biomch-L list owner ======================================================================================== Received: from listserv-mail.surfnet.nl (listserv-mail.surfnet.nl [192.87.5.141]) by bugs.bme.ri.ccf.org (8.9.2/8.9.2) with ESMTP id JAA18918; Tue, 16 Mar 1999 09:32:28 -0500 (EST) Received: from listserv-mail (192.87.5.141) by listserv-mail.surfnet.nl (LSMTP for Windows NT v1.1b) with SMTP id <[log in to unmask]>; Tue, 16 Mar 1999 15:27:32 +0100 Received: from NIC.SURFNET.NL by NIC.SURFNET.NL (LISTSERV-TCP/IP release 1.8d) with spool id 101194 for [log in to unmask]; Tue, 16 Mar 1999 15:28:47 +0100 Received: from klokan.sh.cvut.cz (147.32.127.208) by listserv.surfnet.nl (LSMTP for Windows NT v1.1b) with SMTP id <[log in to unmask]>; Tue, 16 Mar 1999 15:28:46 +0100 Received: from desitka.sh.cvut.cz ([log in to unmask] [147.32.127.224]) by klokan.sh.cvut.cz (8.8.8/8.8.8/Silicon Hill/Antispam/29.3.1998) with ESMTP id PAA31209 for <[log in to unmask]>; Tue, 16 Mar 1999 15:27:26 +0100 Received: from rakosnicek (really [147.32.120.102]) by desitka.sh.cvut.cz via smail with smtp id <[log in to unmask]> (Debian Smail3.2.0.102) for <[log in to unmask]>; Tue, 16 Mar 1999 15:25:07 +0100 (CET) Received: from SpoolDir by SERVER-Y (Mercury 1.44); 12 Mar 99 19:42:32 MET Received: from klokan.sh.cvut.cz (147.32.127.208) by server-y.sh.cvut.cz (Mercury 1.44) with ESMTP; 12 Mar 99 19:41:58 MET Received: from rmx08.globecomm.net (rmx08.iname.net [165.251.8.85]) by klokan.sh.cvut.cz (8.8.8/8.8.8/Silicon Hill/Antispam/29.3.1998) with ESMTP id TAA10316 for <[log in to unmask]>; Fri, 12 Mar 1999 19:40:37 +0100 Received: from smv18.iname.net by rmx08.globecomm.net (8.9.1/8.8.0) with SMTP id NAA13897 ; Fri, 12 Mar 1999 13:40:07 -0500 (EST) Received: from listserv-mail.surfnet.nl (listserv-mail.surfnet.nl [192.87.5.141]) by smv18.iname.net (8.9.1a/8.9.1SMV) with ESMTP id NAA18581 for <[log in to unmask]>; Fri, 12 Mar 1999 13:39:50 -0500 (EST) Received: from listserv-mail (192.87.5.141) by listserv-mail.surfnet.nl (LSMTP for Windows NT v1.1b) with SMTP id <[log in to unmask]>; Fri, 12 Mar 1999 19:39:21 +0100 Received: from NIC.SURFNET.NL by NIC.SURFNET.NL (LISTSERV-TCP/IP release 1.8d) with spool id 58979 for [log in to unmask]; Fri, 12 Mar 1999 19:40:41 +0100 Received: from copland.udel.edu (128.175.13.92) by listserv.surfnet.nl (LSMTP for Windows NT v1.1b) with SMTP id <[log in to unmask]>; Fri, 12 Mar 1999 19:40:40 +0100 Received: from chrysostom (chrysostom.me.udel.edu [128.175.116.7]) by copland.udel.edu (8.8.8/8.8.8) with SMTP id NAA25166 for <[log in to unmask]>; Fri, 12 Mar 1999 13:39:20 -0500 (EST) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook 8.5, Build 4.71.2232.26 Importance: Normal X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.2106.4 Approved-By: Tom Buchanan <[log in to unmask]> Approved-By: Biomechanics and Movement Science listserver <[log in to unmask]> Message-ID: <[log in to unmask]> Newsgroups: bit.listserv.biomch-l Date: Fri, 12 Mar 1999 13:42:10 -0500 Reply-To: [log in to unmask] Sender: Biomechanics and Movement Science listserver <[log in to unmask]> From: Tom Buchanan <[log in to unmask]> Subject: ASB Annual Meeting--Papers due 4/1/99 To: [log in to unmask] X-UIDL: 8c40f07910ca1dfc0bbe855ff7850638 Status: U X-Mozilla-Status: 8001 X-Status: O Return-Receipt-To: X-KMail-Mark: Cc:
