Contrary to what some people seem to think, the "internet" is much more
than the web, the WorldWideWait.
I can't speak for Douglas, but MY first terminal was a 100baud TTY. I
have been "on" the internet since before the WWW existed. I find the
command line to be my fastest interface, with point & click being
tedious.
