FWIW, I use an application called POPFile that works a real treat. It's a
local-machine spam filter that does an amazingly good job. You will have
to skim through the spam messages just prior to final deleting (to catch
any false-positives) but I find that's not a huge worry. I simply filter
them into a 'spam' folder for easy handling.
I've been using it for about three years now and I regularly get 99%+
