To me, that's doing things the hard way.

Seems like it would be much simpler to have your script create list 
headers, store one header per file with a PUT command at the top of 
the file, and then invoke Blat or some other SMTP utility to mail the 
files to LISTSERV.  (Obviously the From: address would have to be 
that of a LISTSERV postmaster.)
