Mark,
1. I cannot assume that people won't send 1-line messages starting with
the word 'FOR', for example. This is a perfectly valid use of the
list.
2. Most people have a 'signature' blurb which they append to the text of
all their notes. I have seen a lot of SUBSCRIBE requests followed by
such a signature. The message is no longer a 1-liner then.
Making this change to LISTSERV would be the same thing as modifying XEDIT
to execute (via SVC 202) any file line that you have typed and that is
also a valid CMS command, on the basis that what you wanted to do was to
execute the command but you forgot to press ENTER before typing it and it
got into the file instead of into the command line. I have never liked
'kludges', and prefer not to use them unless absolutely necessary.
