Find a highly qualified Co-Owner! Pete Weiss, a frequent poster to
this list, joined me as Co-Owner of my 3 lists with the provision
that he be a QUIET owner. I take the initial "burst" of bounces and
look for USER UNKNOWN or HOST UNKNOWN errors and I forward ONE
BOUNCE to Pete for his analysis and action. The CAN'T CONNECT FOR 3
DAYS type usually correct themselves and I just keep deleting them
until they stop. Using this two step procedure seems to be working
quite well-- I handle 400 bounces which result in 5 or 6 "action"
messages to Pete. He does the port 25 checks, setting of NOMAIL, or
deleting the subscriber, notes to postmasters and/or node reps, and
any other technical coordination regarding a "problem" address.
Without Pete, I would shut the lists down as a waste of scarce
computing resources because I just wouldn't have the time/expertise
to adequately deal with these problems. . . . Phil---
