>HISTARCH@ASUACAD is SEND=PUBLIC. Even without adding items to FILTER=,
>SEND=PRIVATE would protect from such a simple technique (even leaving
>SUBCRIPTION=OPEN: they should at least subscribe, before sending).
One caveat: when switching from SEND=PUBLIC to PRIVATE or EDITOR, please
realize that some subscribers who were previously sending and receiving
list postings, will now either "bounce" go through the editor. Why?
because e-mail is NOT always symmetrical. Thus a receiver can get
his/her mail properly forwarded at an address different from their
actual list subscription address.
Remedies: resubscribe the user, add a NOMAIL subscription, or be
a defacto moderator.
BTW, I don't think the SEND=PRIVATE/EDITOR will help with NETNEWS
gateways i.e., a spam of Usenet groups bit.listserv.* (please correct
me if I'm wrong about this).
