|>I hate to be so dumb, but what is the INDEX?
|
|INDEX is just what it says. You get a msg (formatted very similar to the
|result of a SEARCH request) which gives you who-from, Subject, Date, msg
|size and a Post#. You then must request individual posts via the GETPOST
|command to get the msg bodies desired. It is useful to people who may only
|want to follow limited threads of a very busy list.
The format of the INDEX output, as well as the method of retrieving
full-text referenced in the INDEX has changed across releases. Here is the
current method of INDEX distribution for a list called SPAM-L (the
anti-spam list):

The sizes shown are the number of lines in the messages, not counting mail
headers.
To order the messages you are interested in, simply reply to this message and
include the original text, just as when you are replying to a normal message
and want to quote what your correspondent said. Before sending the message,
delete the lines corresponding to the items you are not interested in, and
make
sure your reply is going to "[log in to unmask]", NOT
to "[log in to unmask]".
