.  is this a userid authentication problem
.  is this a SENDMAIL configuration problem
.  is this really a no-longer existent userid
 
Let the subscribers' institutions fix THEIR system.  If it takes their
users' dissatisfaction, then so be it.
 
It may be that SMARTLIST encourages broken mail systems or sloppy
sysadmin practices by the very fact of being "tolerant"?
