If you are trying to avoid giving the subscriber the *impression* of
having been unsubscribed, then consider using "QUIET DELETE" instead of
just "DELETE."  If you remember to issue a "QUERY listname FOR user"
before deleting the user, you can use that information to restore the
subscription with "QUIET ADD" and "QUIET SET" without the user knowing the
difference.
