I'm developing a list which is intended to be private, for physicians who
will be discussing confidential medical issues. I know nothing about
computer hacking, and I'm being told now that I likely cannot create a
very secure Listserv list that would be safe from hackers.

is this true? Are there no steps I can take to eliminate the prospect of
unauthorized hackers reading the list's archives, or posting to the list?
I wish to take those steps that I can take. And I wish to get a clear
sense of what the limits of security are, so that I can make these limits
plain to the participating physicians and not mislead them about how
confidential their discussions will be.

Thanks for any help.
