Wayne:
Assuming that e-mail has NOT been spoofed, this is perfectly acceptable
and useful. I, as a postmaster ("Network ADministrator") for users
in my domain, have the right and responsibility to do so.
NADs can assign themselves passwords on LISTSERVs at other sites
and then do a
QUIET DEL * userid PW=pswd
to remove all subscriptions to a now-obsolete or inappropriate
userid e.g., a list that is sub=by_owner could have been ADDed
incorrectly by the owner. Why should the postmaster have to
go through a dialogue with its implicit network delay to rectify
a problem that he/she has to deal with? That of course is rhetorical.
There are other reasons for NADs to do "things" to their users'
subscriptions, and that could be the subject: of a separate thread.
Though this caught you by surprise, I don't think it should necessarily
bother you unless there are other unstated circumstances.
