Ok, after reading through the archives, I believe I was caught by the
"Editor kludge" that was talked about on this list back in December of
2004.
Basically, my list is gatewayed to a moderated Usenet group (I have
participants who use strictly email and others who are strictly usenet, so
"making a choice" is strictly out of the question).
As with any moderated group, there are those who are well behaved enough
to gain "automatic approval status". On my list/group, that list is about
400 addresses. It seemed that the easiest way to deal with those was to
create a separate list and utilize the "kludge".
My old setup was:
* Send=Editor
* Editor= (automatic-approval-list)
* Moderator= my-addy
* Moderator= another-guy
Ok, so I think the way to fix this is to
(a) remove the Editor line completely (still want the Moderators to
alternate which posts they get).
(b) take all of the subscribers from (automatic-approval-list) and
subscribe them to the main list with the options of NoMail,NoReview
But therein lies the rub - I am afraid that some of the folks on the
autoapprove list may already be on the email list and my setting their
option to NoMail will prevent them from getting the messages.
Question 1: is my plan for fixing my problem going to work?
Question 2: is there an easy way to set NoMail for only those people
unique to the auto-approve list?
