Many mail programs identify themselves in the header with an X-Mailer line.
Here is a sample from four messages in my current IN box:

X-Mailer: Mozilla 3.01 (Macintosh; I; PPC)
X-Mailer: Eudora 4.0 for Cray T3E-1200
X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Pro Version 4.0
X-Mailer: Novell GroupWise 4.1

Mozilla is really Netscape. I can tell that the sender of the first
message was using Netscape 3.01 on a Mac.
