Dear list owners,
As some of you heard from me last month, I am trying to restore
the order in the list I'm currently managing: CHPOEM-L. Attacks
came -- but always from the same few people -- and a couple of
them ignored my action of putting them on the "review" list. One
of them faked other users' e-address to post.
I have very limited time and energy, and I have chosen to focus
on serving the majority rather than punishing the abusive few,
although punishing the abusive few would be part of serving the
majority. Now I believe I have gained the majority's trust, and
I decide to go further.
Here is my plan based on my limited knowledge:
1. Compile an "acting charter," which will turn official in 3
months if no big change needed. I've posted a draft and received
limited feedback.
2. Unsubsribe everyone and asks everyone who wants to come back
to subscribe again. When subscribe, they will see a welcome
message with the acting charter included. One needs to agree to
follow the acting charter to be on the list.
3. Every new-sub is on the "review" list automatically because
one of the Default-Options is set to Review. Most list users
will never post, so it should be okay for them. For those who
want to post, if the first attempt follows the acting charter,
I will send him a note, giving him the choice whether or not he
wants to be out of the "review" list. Being on "review" list
prevents forged post from this account, BTW.
4. Validate= All,Confirm
5. In the future, I will invited some trustworthy users to be
part of the managing team.
So that's my plan. I need your suggestions and advices. In step
2, in particular, how do I add a step to have a new-sub to con-
firm his subscription upon his agreement with the charter? Or do
I just assume that he agrees as soon as he signs on?
Also, I know how to handle "review" list now. I understand there
are also "Editor" and "Moderator" options, which will give the
users "no choice" as opposed to the step 3 in my plan (a user
has the option to be on "review" list -- sounds funny? :-).
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Kind regards,
Jim, CHPOEM-L list owner
