No, this is not recommended.

The fastest way to do this is to rename the existing list and realted files (See
Site Manager Manual Chap 7.16
http://www.lsoft.com/Manuals/1.8d/SiteMgr/sitemgr.html#7.16

then create a new list under the OLD name (with no subscribers).

Configure this "OLD" list header with the following 3 lines:

* The (insert_old_listname) list has Moved!
* New-List= (insert_new_listname)@(insert_server_name)
* Owner= (insert_new_listname)-REQUEST@(insert_server_name)

You need to insert the proper listname(s) and Server name above and
 do not use the () they are valid for the explantion only.
