Thanks, I think I'll add a note like that to the subscription page. I may
wait and check with UK, since they host the list.
So I am right in thinking posts are protected by copyright? (even if it's
hard to enforce)

Does your list have a copyright notice in each post? Its not a complete
panecea, but will help your case if it develops into a legal fight.
For example, my lists bottom banner:
