We are considering a USENET gateway for a list used by foreign language
teachers. I thought that if the USENET group were moderated or
read-only, we could avoid unwanted posting through the gateway. Am I
wrong about this? Was the problem stated above that addresses were
taken from the USENET posts and used to forge e-mail posts, or were the
forgeries sent in via USENET?

We have been very cautious about opening a USENET gateway but are
considering it because of subscriber interest in being able to read
FLTEACH without filling their mailbox.
