It depends on the level of expertise of the forger and the general answer
is NOT A CHANCE, not one in a million, zilch, end of discussion. I don't
know the details how to do it but I have seen it done and I understand
the principles well enough to be totally convinced. With the right
equipment and knowledge, there won't be one disk unit in the whole
network with the real origin logged. The only boxes which will have had a
way to give a clue to the real origin of the message will have been IP
routers, and these things process thousands of packets per second and
certainly don't log their origin, destination, contents and the physical
line from which they came as a matter of routine. If LISTSERV could
easily detect forgeries it would do so.
