"Can the response to messages sent to the listname-REQUEST address be
suppressed ?" [Mike Ramundo, LSTOWN-L, 1995-12-26]
 
Listname-REQUEST is a collective name for the non-quiet owners: and,
normally, at least one among them has to be a human, reachable and
willing to answer to (administrative) questions coming via this address.
 
So I assume the meaning is "how to suppress copies sent to owners of
user messages generated as a by-product of commands issued by owners
(ADD, DEL, SET FOR), and (perhaps) subsequent user replies to those
messages".
 
1. Issue the commands prefixing QUIET (no message is sent to users: and
so there is no possibility they reply to it).
 
2. Customize listname MAILTPL inserting in unwanted messages a .CC OFF
for suppressing copies to owners (user is notified, and if subsequent
interaction with owners is needed, REPLY-TO correcly will propose
listname-REQUEST).
 
3. Customize ... inserting a .QQ as a line immediately following the
header of the message to be suppressed (as (1): but this way those
commands are permanently "muted", as they were issued QUIET).
 
4. Customize ... deleting the .RE OWNERS line (a cumbersome solution:
the user will be notified, but a REPLY will point to LISTSERV, with the
final effect of being discarded because it doesn't consist of valid
commands).
 
Hope this helps. But please correct me if I answered the wrong question;
certainly I wasn't able to see the link between the first question and
the second one, about addressing the "list moderator": as I know, there
is not a listname-EDITORS name available for collectively addressing
them (but may I throw it here as a suggestion for a future enhancement
of LISTSERV ?). I miei saluti.
