Penney Windebank asked about, as I understood it (sorry, deleted the
item), shutting down the logs while keeping the list running.  I'm not
certain but I don't think you can do that.  I imagine you'ld at least have
to put the list on HOLD.
 
It would be a lot easier, and less risky, to wait until the log is closed
and a new one opened, then edit the just closed log and put it back.
Wouldn't it?
