The _reason_ is Eric doesn't want to do it that way.

Whether or not it's a good idea can be debated.  Subscriber options are
designed to be self-modifiable via email.  Changing the list header was
not intended as an 5 times/day operation, is more of a set/forget kind of
thing so easy changes were not seen to be necessary.
