   Rather than retire the 'by country' i suggest the opposite.. that a
country designation be made mandadorty AFTER the TDL.   That is...

  be mandadatory instead of
[log in to unmask]
   which does not tell you at all that FooeyU is in Canada.

   We should promote this idea.   I like the edu, org, com  etc
domains but I am not willing yet to accept the globalization idea that
all domains wherever they are have no relation to their country.  This
to me smacks of the marxist idea that all proletarians are one, there
are no nations or religions, but merely class interests.
   I suggest that an .edu site in Pristina, Jugoslavia, has less in
common with an .edu site in Belgrade, Jugoslavia, than one might
expect.
