I dare say the problem is not with .COM per say, but that it is probably
the largest of the domains. For instance, America Online (aol.com) itself
has over 600,000 members now, 300,000 new in the last year. It been pushing
it's internet connectivity by making a nice user interfact to find and
subscribe to lists, and has just started offering newsgroups.
With so many people being added to the internet, you are bound to get some
bozos.
