Some Unix sites tend for forget their users for a brief period of
time on a regular basis. That's unfortunate, but then it is NOT
appropriate to just auto-delete these people.
Obviously, the 'x-number of days in a row' idea is the only way to
even begin to tackle the problem, and even it will have its problems.

Could be a good idea - would keep several people employed for years
:-).
But seriously, the problem is not always the mailer, as I noted
above. Sometimes the mailer is reporting the truth as the system itself
forgets userids - even forgetting its SMTP!
