I don't really know why we are discussing this any further.
Clearly, there is a need for anonymous postings. I guess the point
is should it be allowed in any forum, or just those where there is a
real need. I don't see who will control which forums have legitimate
reason to allow anonymous posts, and, I certainly hope that Peter's
hypothesis of where the network will be going doesn't come true, but, it
may. Let us let the people on the lists decide if it is needed or not.
At any rate, from what I have seen, some people seem to be way out of
touch with reality on the issue - if I may be so blunt - by clearly
showing a lack of understanding for the issue. I refer specifically to
those who think that "everyone should be accountable" without
understanding that, in the cases cited, it is NOT a matter of
accountability at all. I am not surprised at this attitude given the
way certain religious groups in this country have been carrying on over
the last couple of decades, just dismayed at their tenacity to be
inhuman towards others who are not *exactly* as they perceive themselves
to be.
I would hope that we are above that in the network and that we can
face issues that others may be too cowardly to face and be human in
response to those who have either been in unfortunate circumstances
beyond their control, or have chosen a lifestyle that self-righteous
religious and political figures, in the name of God, have chosen to
condemn them for.
So far, as I have seen, I don't see a problem with the way things are
now. I think it works quite well, and, as far as I know, most problems
have been solved between sites without much of a problem. I hope it
stays that way.
