I've found that simply making sure the URL is enclosed in angle brackets
<> will help keep it together or at least make it easier to
cut-and-paste, e.g.:

<https://my.nih.gov/portal/server.pt?space=CommunityPage&cached=true&parentname=CommunityPage&amp;parentid=3&in_hi_userid=1386547control=SetCommunity&CommunityID=786&PageID=687>
