Is there any way to compress text files and store them on a fileserver
so that people will be able to get them? Will listserv recognize any
compression format? If not, is there any other list-software that
will?

I'm asking because I have logs from an old list that I'd like to store.
They are of interest only to some and I would object to them taking
up a lot of space. It is also a problem in that they were entrusted
to me, and in the interests of fair record-keeping I feel obliged
to make them available somewhere.

I guess the obvious would be to seek an ftp site, but I don't
know of any where I could deposit the stuff.
