I cannot verify that this would work, but you might try it out and see
how it goes:
 
   unsub listname for [log in to unmask]
 
I am now less sure about this, because I just send a QUERY LISTNAME FOR
[log in to unmask] and I got the reply from LISTSERV as if I were
[log in to unmask]  The result of my suggested UNSUB FOR may well be
that *YOU* get the FAREWELL message and [log in to unmask] never heard
anything except that they have been removed from the list (which is what
Kevin Sinclair was trying to avoid.... an impersonal cutoff).
