I have read with interest the replies to my query about a 'heartbeat'
from Listserv to the NOMAIL users.

While the responses have been interesting, I still believe that the
heartbeat is a feature that would be useful.

There are thousands of lists now, and solutions to problems need to be
simple; all those list owners out there are for the most part not going
to be listserv experts. This list, LSTOWN-L, is rather small - under 300
subscribers, I believe, and the subscribers I would expect are certainly
above average in their knowledge and skill with listserv. So solutions like
those discussed here for my NOMAIL question might work for some owners,
but in general are too complicated.

The heartbeat idea, if built in to listserv, is a tool that helps the
subscriber themselves manage the NOMAIL and therefore reduces the
burden on the listowner. I think that is very important, especially as the
population of list owners grows.
