Does your list have
 
* SUBSCRIPTION= OPEN,CONFIRM
 
This pre-empts alot of these "subscribe/can't post" problems
(but not all of them since e-mail addresses change over
time).  Of course using the above configuration MOVES
the problem to "can't post" to "can't subscribe," yet
gets one step closer to resolving up front.
 
Also, you may note, that some folks can successfully
subscribe with this new configuraton, can generate
new posts for distribution, yet can NOT reply to
list distribution posts i.e., some folks REPLY
function generates a different FROM: than original
(non-REPLY) e-mail.
 
This is why we list-owner make the big buck$. ;-)
