I upgraded SEGATE today, without any trouble. Much deliberation and
hesitation went into this first, because we're running on FreeBSD, and the
14.4 > 14.5 step involved a forced upgrade because 14.5 does not support
FreeBSD 4.* anymore. I did of course not read the release notes properly,
so missed this. 

L-Soft support gave me the courage to continue and (which is why I'm
writing this) I'm now able to offer some fill-in-the-blanks data: 

* 14.4 built for and linked on 4-STABLE will run just fine on 5.5-PRERELEASE

* The upgrade path that worked for us is: 

1. re-build and upgrade OS as per FreeBSD instructions. (lot of things
implied here, one might want to test on another machine first.)

2. while running 14.4 on the upgraded OS, re-link the binaries on the new
machine. 

3. Stop web server, sendmail and 14.4 lsv

4. make update

5. install the new LAK per instructions. 

6. ./go just to check that the license is merged etc, then ^C and stop. 

7. start listserv the usual way.

8. start web server and sendmail again. 

Works for me. YMMV.
