I am interested in starting a mailing list for the discussion of custom
action figures. There is a growing community of customizing enthusiasts
on the net, but we are not yet at the newsgroup threshhold yet.
Currently, messages regarding the customizing of action figures are
found on newsgroups such as rec.toys.action-figures, rec.toys.misc, and
rec.arts.sf.starwars.collecting. Unfortunately, all these groups are
very high traffic groups and the customizing info is often hard to
separate out.
 
Evidence of the popularity of this hobby can be found in the explosion
of custom action figure web sites (see Custom Corner section of the URL
below). We have tried an electronic newsletter, but there was no
interactivity in that method (as with web pages). Subscribers expressed
a desire for more direct interaction.
 
We have also discussed creating an alt.* group but felt like a mailing
list would be a more appropriate use of net resources.
 
Unfortunately, none of the main movers and shakers of this customizing
movement is in a position (or has the knowledge or experience) to run an
electronic mailing list. I have taken it upon myself to seek out a
benevolent individual who might be kind enough to host a list of this
sort.
 
Our best estimate is that the list would be low to moderate traffic with
somewhere between 20-50 subscribers. Of course, this number could grow
significantly if the hobby continues to grow at the pace it has over the
last 18 months.
 
I throw my ignorant self at your collective mercy. If anyone is in a
position to help us, please contact me directly. I'd be willing to help
with any maintenance or administrative tasks.
