Check the headers of outgoing messages that were delayed. In fact, I  
suggest you subscribe to your lists via two more more outside email  
addresses such as on hotmail and gmail. That way, when problem occurs  
again, you can see what the headers to those subscriptions look like.  
Look for any indication of a long gap in time between a pair of  
servers in the header. i suspect that if you take this approach, you  
will find that one of the servers that sits between your Listserv and  
your test subscriptions is the culprit.
