Also, be sure that the list-owner/subscriber does NOT have an additional subscription to the same list under a slightly different userid or hostname.

Just to be clear, the act of unsubscribing or setting nomail does NOT affect already generated (but not necessarily received by the final MTA) mail in-transit (where we all understand that in-transit might last for a couple of weeks or be a function of a spool re-load).
