I have seen this 'garbling' before -- it was (before) due to a glitch in
a link that was using variable text compression in its line driver.  In
the case in question, frequently occurring strings were the ones that
were replaced(affected).  This happened on a posting from another network
as best as I recall, but I suppose it could be happening here if there
are any peculiar mods floating around for compression.
