don't know if it helps, but ....
  trash majordomo and run a real listserver (from L-SOFT). i'm running
  Linux-LISTSERV on a dx-2/66 with 32MB and have made > 40.000 mail-deliveries
  a day without any problem (and assume i even could more than double it).
