-------------------------------------------------------------------------
---- IMPORTANT WARNING TO ALL USERS OF CMS RELEASE 6, 7 AND 8 ----
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This fix will be required to install release 1.7c. A special FIX17Bn
update with just CARD MODULE will be generated and sent to all LISTSERV
sites running CMS release 6, 7 or 8 just before 1.7c is released. The
servers are polled once a month for this information; the answers take up
to two weeks to come back for some countries. If you have recently
migrated or plan to migrate soon to one of these versions of CMS, you
must take care of installing this fix yourself as I cannot guarantee that
I will have up to date information on the release of CMS you are using.
If you have migrated in march 1992 or earlier, you will receive the
update automatically but you are still advised to install 17B-002o
manually as soon as possible. In particular, YOU ARE ADVISED TO INSTALL
THIS FIX BEFORE LOADING THE FIX17B1 UPDATE, or you may end up with a
corrupted LSWCWRT MODULE.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
---- End of CMS 6-8 specific warning ----
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
In addition to the serious error mentioned above, a number of minor
problems have been discovered with CARD under CMS release 8. While these
were mostly known restrictions, it has become necessary to address them
in order to avoid unexpected problems during LISTSERV maintenance. For
instance, the fact that CARD did not support sparse files became
unacceptable when the default CMS at SEARN was changed to release 8,
given that it is not possible to prevent CMS8 from creating sparse files.
IPL'ing CMS5 when generating update decks does not solve the problem
either - the files have to be unsparsed first with COPYFILE, which in
turn is not possible because CMS5 cannot process the sparse RECFM V files
which CMS8 creates. New code to remove these restrictions has been
bundled with the CMS 6-8 fix mentioned above.
