for what it's worth wpwin-l has a couple hundred (weekly) notebooks.
since i can't find any cpu time being spent searching i don't imagine
there should be any concern in a solaris (or similar unix) environment
unless you want archive searching to take precedence over delivery.
and yes, searching appears to be (quite) slow.
 
of course our machine may be a special case since it still does all of its
own delivery (not as many as the top 20 list might imply but still a lot)
with sendmail.

The database functionality loved and hated in 1.7 is again live and well but
with a kinder and gentler face....Now if a site with 100s of logfiles in a
list would put this up for testing....then it could be determined....if a
particular box had any cpu time left over to do other things.
