Folks,
Too late, the subscribers have been added. It took about nine hours!
After adding all the subscribers listserv spent a long time panting,
growing the .list file in the FIO file cache, whatever that is.

The IMPORT option implies a QUIET ADD, so a welcome message didn't get
sent out.(not being smug, thats a quote from the manual ;-)

The list is now ready, I'll be sending a message later today.
Another question that springs to mind is will Listserv send this
message in batches ?
they are all destined for one domain, (our own ISP) so traditional
SMTP would only send one message with a list of recipients yes ?
Listserv seemed to be nicely batching the address import into groups
of 100, which rings a bell somwhere in the config, is it likely to
send 1,000 messages with 100 recipients per message, one message
with 100,000 recipients ? Or some random configuration calculated
using the price of cheese ?

Interested, as I don't want to blow up the ISPs mail server.

THanks for any opinions!

Damon.

If you are ONLY sending a single message to a one-time list, then you don't
need a defined LISTSERV(R) list (with all the auxillary ADDs), but a
DISTRIBUTE MAIL job. In terms of email distribution, that should be about
as efficient.
