        My feeling is that you should think about certian things:

        1) It SHOULD be cleaned up.  If, it's not doing anything, and it's
not clarifying anything, it should be cleaned up.
        2) Anything that you do, the list owners should know about.
        3) The list owners should know why you are doing it also, if they
want (you don't have to explain right out, but it can save a lot of
headaches if you do).
        4) Feel free to get your list owners to do work, but don't expect
it.
        5) If it IS broken, *you* should fix it, and not try to get the
list owners to do it...
