Insufficient data. If the error appears in response to traffic
originating directly from LISTSERV(tm) entering the queue, then you have
something rather strange going on.

If the error appears in response to traffic being delivered to a remote
site, then you may be able to solve the issue by creating a custom
destination profile and setting the max recipients parameter to a very
low number for that remote site. This is done most easily through the
WinLSCP control interface - configure, SMTP Destinations. Changing this
option should not have noticeable effect on your system performance. We
use LSMTP(tm) not the lite version, so I can't say exactly for sure just
how this may work in your configuration. As a matter of my personal
preference, I set max recipients per message to 1 for every destination,
with a few rare exceptions - it makes problem-solving simpler.

I recommend leaving MAXBSMTP as it is.

The error you list is generally due to a particular message having
"more than X recipients" for the target domain, where X is determined
individually by each mail system, and may change from time to time. If
you have the LSMTP max recipients value smaller than X then you don't
see that error. You might want to have a look at your subscriber list
to identify the domains where you have larger collections of
subscribers.

My Listserv SMTP log is showing the following error for one of my lists

with 169 subscribers

552 5.5.3 Too many recipients

Listserv is set with MAXBSMTP at 1000

Should I change the setting (what would be optimal), or is there
another solution?

LISTSERV 14.4
LSMTP-Lite
