Since opening up a can of worms with my last question, I
almost regret asking this one... ;-)
 
        but:
 
        Why do some lists not allow people to un-subscribe automatically?
 
        I'm curious because I can not think of a good reason, and I,
personally, find it really irritating to have to wait for someone to
sign me off.  (I'm not discussing internet lists here-- specifically
BITNET lists which use LISTSERV for their operation).
