Ah, well, my gloating may have been premature.  They scanned the data flowing into and out of Listserv.  The spaces were not there when Listserv got the mail.  They were there when the mail left Listserv.

Perhaps this is two similar "problems."

This is probably some simple template issue that I'm looking right at and not seeing.
