It is an entirely new product, completely separate from LSMTP. It is
based on the Strongmail MTA, and although its speed is comparable to
LSMTP's, the emphasis is NOT on speed, but on *deliverability*. Not
much point in getting mail out fast if it doesn't get delivered.
LSMTP is good for what it does, but it doesn't do enough to solve
today's delivery problems, and that's not something that can be
easily retrofitted into last century's solutions.

We did a search for the best MTA available, and Strongmail was head
and shoulders above all the others we looked at. We made a deal with
Strongmail Systems and with their assistance, adapted their MTA for
use with LISTSERV and LISTSERV Maestro, and the result is HDMail. We
will continue to work with Strongmail Systems to adapt LISTSERV,
LISTSERV Maestro, and HDMail to be more and more integrated with each
other.

Like an anti-virus program that continually gets updates to deal with
new viruses, HDMail can get "live updates" of deliverability
information so that it adapts to the ever-changing requirements of
receiving mail hosts.

However, your assertion that LSMTP is no longer supported is
incorrect: L-Soft will continue to provide support to _existing_
LSMTP customers for the forseeable future.

Here's the announcement that was sent out to subscribers of the
L-Soft Product Updates Lists:
