In my PROFILE EXEC, I turn off the line editing characters, thusly:
  cp set linedit off      /* the # */
  cp term linend off       /* the # */
  cp term chardel off      /* the @ */
  CP term LINEDEL OFF     /* the cents symbol = pc backslash*/
 
There are pros & cons...I cannot enter multiple CP & CMS commands on a
single line separated by the #, however, I can use the @ instead of AT.
